Waiting for the new cars on ford? The 2012 Ford Focus ECOnetic will be powered by the same 1.6-litre Ford Duratorq diesel engine as the Fiesta, although it has 77kW of power (up from 66kW) and has been optimised for enhanced fuel efficiency. The Focus ECOnetic will be available in five-door hatch and estate body styles. It will be produced at the Saarlouis manufacturing plant in Germany – the same plant that will initially supply the new Focus to Australia – with UK deliveries scheduled to commence early next year. The 2012 Ford Focus ECOnetic one of the most fuel efficiency models in the compact class. it is ultra-low CO2 emissions of less than 95g/km when certification is completed later this year, and it will go on sale in early 2012.

The new Ford Focus ECOnetic will be distinguished from a standard Focus, it will also get the innovative Active Grille Shutter an advanced new system that optimizes aerodynamics by using vents to control airflow through the grille to the cooling system and engine compartment. 2012 Ford Focus ECOnetic is powered by a 1.6-liter Ford Duratorq TDCi diesel, which has been optimized for enhanced fuel efficiency, with a new injection system and turbocharger, enhanced charge cooling, and further friction reduction measures.

The engine is mated to a new six-speed Durashift manual transmission which has been optimized to eliminate frictional losses, and utilizes special low friction transmission oil. The full range of ECOnetic technologies are employed including Auto Start-Stop, regenerative braking, electric power steering, unique aerodynamic package with Active Grille Shutter, low rolling resistance tyres, Eco Mode and shift indicator light. Focus promises to be even more efficient than the smaller Ford Fiesta ECOnetic, which uses 3.7 litres/100km. The Focus’s CO2 emissions will also be lower, rated at 95g/km versus the Fiesta’s 98g/km.
